Totarella is the name given by the people of the popular double-reed oboe Pollino. And 'that accompanies the instrument - in many versions - the pipe wrench to Luke, and as such is built and tuned with the bagpipe, which is accompanied by (G +, is +, 3 palms, etc. ...), therefore, each piece is a unique instrument. The
Totarella has seven holes in front and one rear (unlike the bagpipes in central Italy that have 8 holes)
is often used - as a solo instrument - in combination with another totarella - larger - which serves as low.
The woods used are the same as the bagpipes in the key Pollino: heather, boxwood, apricot and - especially - in the Pollino olive.
In any case, tradition has it that the wood is cut in winter (January to February) and only during periods of strict moon is missing. In this way, in fact, the amount of sap in the wood is at its annual minimum.
Wood, then, is stored in a dry place away from direct sunlight for at least three or four years.
